The Jesse Tree
We are now in the season of the year that the Church calls Advent. One of the things we do during Advent is to remember how the world waited for Jesus to come, for this was the promise that God made to his people. One of the ways we do this is by making and praying with a Jesse Tree.
A Jesse Tree helps us to remember and celebrate Jesus' family tree. It helps us to know through words and symbols all the people who led up to Jesus' birth. And, it's our family tree too - because we belong to the same family that Jesus does - God's family.
All our elementary Faith Formation families received Jesse tree kits. Here is a video showing you how to use your Jesse tree kit.
As we pray our way through Advent using the Jesus’ Family Tree booklet, we’ll add ornaments onto the tree each day. Each page in the booklet contains a Bible verse, a short devotional message and a prayer.
How to Look Up a Passage in the Bible
Find a Bible Passage Online
You can find a Bible passage on line at the United States Catholic Conference of Bishop's (USCCB) website. Click on the Book of the Bible you wish to find, then the chapter, and then the verse. Here's the link: BIBLE
Our Parish Family Tree
Join in making a Jesse Tree for our parish by adding your family to the tree. We do this because as Catholic Christians we also help bring Jesus into the world.
Each family can make an ornament using a symbol that represents their family, add their name and drop it off in the vestibule of the Church when the Church is open. It will be hung on the St. Augustine's Family Jesse Tree. To make an ornament design your own - or use one of the templates provided here: round ball, star 1, star 2.
Take photos of yourself designing and decorating your family ornament and post them on our photo link found the landing page for Grades 1-5.
